The Great Book Swap

The Great Book Swap

The Great Book Swap is a fantastic way to celebrate reading locally, build your team, and raise much-needed funds for remote Communities. Workplaces, book clubs, individuals and all kinds of organisations can host one. The idea is to swap a favourite book in exchange for a gold coin (or fiver) donation.

Hosting a Great Book Swap is an excellent way to engage your staff, contribute to your organisation’s Reconciliation Action Plan, start conversations and play a vital role in raising funds for our programs. You might even want to approach your organisation or business about matching donations to double your impact. By participating in the Great Book Swap, you will be actively helping us gift new, culturally relevant books to children in remote Communities across the country.

What Matters? Writing Competition
Apr
4
to May 5

What Matters? Writing Competition

Inspired by Gough Whitlam's commitment to involving young people in shaping Australia's future, the What Matters? writing competition is currently open to school students in years 5 to 12 from Australia. Responding to the simple question 'what matters?', entrants are free to express their views on any matter they care about.

Part writing exercise, part civics and citizenship activity, What Matters? is the perfect opportunity to empower students to raise their voices on issues that are important to them and know that their perspectives are valuable, no matter their age, background or viewpoint.  Entries can be fiction, non-fiction, poetry or prose of up to 600 words, and submitted online at What Matters? Writing Competition. Entries close on Friday, 5 May 2023.

The competition receives thousands of entries covering a wide range of subjects, disproving the idea that young Australians are disengaged and disaffected. Year after year we are reminded how passionate, observant and articulate young people are, and how deeply driven they are by a sense of social justice as they offer us a window into not just what concerns them, but what inspires them. Tell us about your concerns, your hopes and your dreams; we want to listen! Submit your entries at What Matters? Writing Competition 2023
