The Great Australian Platypus Search is on!
One of the largest citizen science projects in the world. Environment Education Victoria worked with Odonata to support schools to get involved.
Students learned about their local environment and participated in the biggest Citizen Science project in Australia. Students helped scientists by collecting environmental DNA samples from their local waterways. This data was be used to map the distribution of platypuses, fish and other aquatic vertebrates throughout Victoria’s waterways and will have the potential to inform policy, research and management. The ultimate aim being to reverse the Threatened Species status of the platypus.
