Student Voice - An example of the power!

Children tend to says things in a way that gets straight to the point and in a very different way to adults. Here’s a very strong speech by student leaders at Lara Lake Primary School; it was written by Jazz, Sofia, and Ayla; and delivered by Sofia, Ellie and Mia. We congratulate them and we thank teacher Blake for making space for their voices to be heard and amplified. It’s so powerful! Well done Lara Lake!

Jazz – Hello fellow students and teachers. I’m Jazz. I’m Ayla. And I’m Sofia. We would like to talk about the LLPS environment committee. I’m talking about electrical.

Sofia – I’m talking about veggie garden.

Ayla – I’m talking about rubbish.

LLPS we need to put a stop to rubbish! Right here, right now is where we draw the line. Sofia, Jazz and I have counted more than 350 bits of rubbish in the yard in one day, within the LLPS borders. Multiply that by 5 days, it’s 1750. There are 365 days in a year. So that would be 127,750 pieces of rubbish, if that’s how many we produce each day!

Stop and think before you litter!

Change is coming, whether you like it or not. Thankyou!

Sofia – Hello, boys and girls. I’m Sofia and I’m talking about our veggie garden. Mr Freeman give us a wave! Mr Freeman put together veggie garden, that’s why he is in there most days. Thursday lunch is the official day. Over many weeks now, I’ve been in veggie garden for all sessions and there has been a big change. Last week we had a lady from Bunnings come in to help us, and she brought soil, seeds, strawberries, beetroot, gloves and shovels. A big thanks to Sarah from Bunnings!

Now, there’s something that has been disappointing. On the first day of veggie garden, someone had jammed sticks in the locks and we almost couldn’t get in. Make sure we are all being respectful to school property.

Now, I’ll hand the microphone over to Jazz.

Jazz – Hello everyone, this is a quick reminder to remember to turn off electrical appliances when you leave the classroom. These include TV’s, lights, fans, iPads. But not air purifiers, which will turn off automatically.

Thanks for listening.
