For Teachers of VCE Environmental Science and Year 10 Environmental Education.
Fire plays a unique part in the Australian landscape. It is used as both a management tool and is also a natually occurrng phenomenon. Both have signigficant impacts on the flora and fauna of a particular area. Despite Australia’s close relationship with the bush, fire is not a well understood phenomenon.
During this Professional Learning experience you will take part in an investigation of fire in the Woowookarung Regional Park, Ballarat. This area has been subject to ongoing fuel reduction burning. This investigation is designed for classroom use as a range of data is collected and analysed.
After the field investigation, Environment Education Victoria will deliver a SAC workshop using media analysis of a resource developed by EEV. This SAC session will be enhanced by Maria James, Curriculum Manager: Science, from VCAA.
