Mission

To be a professional association that connects people and organisations to develop capacity for enriched, sustainable lives

Statement of purpose

  • To help the individual achieve an awareness of and sensitivity to the total environment, its systems and the individual’s place in it.
  • To develop environmental education in schools and the community and encourage the integration of school-based environmental studies with community environmental education programs.
  • To help people develop the skills necessary for investigating the total environment, through courses of study, lectures, publications, projects and the like.
  • To help people develop responsibility and motivation for active participation in environmental improvement and protection.
  • To promote the development of personal and social structures that enhances awareness of and sensitivity to the total environment.
  • To encourage experimentation with the ways of living where structures have minimal harm on the environment.
  • To foster relations and co-operate with kindred societies and all other persons, institutions and bodies concerned with the objectives above.
  • To investigate, publish, make representation and participate in actions which further the Association’s objectives.

Strategic Objectives 2014-16

  1. To develop environmental education in schools and the community and encourage the integration of school-based environmental studies with community environmental education programs.
  2. Build capacity for investigating, being responsible and motivated for active participation to support and promote the principles of EfS.
  3. To create a financially secure and professionally managed organisation
  4. To develop and maintain relationships and projects with institutions and individuals to further the organisation purpose and EfS principles.
  5. To investigate, publish, make representation and participate in actions which further the Association’s objectives.

Sustainability Principles

EEV understands environmental education to be concerned with exploring/engaging with the inherent value and qualities of the natural world. Education for Sustainability confronts the sustainability challenges of our society.

Change
Education for sustainability is not simply about providing information but involves equipping people with the skills, capacity and motivation to plan and manage change towards sustainability within an organisation, industry or community.

Inclusive education
Education for sustainability is driven by a broad understanding of education and learning that includes people of all ages and backgrounds and takes place in formal and informal learning spaces.

Systems thinking
Education for sustainability aims to equip people to understand connections between environmental, economic, social and political systems.

Envisioning a better future
Education for sustainability engages people in envisaging diverse sustainable futures.

Critical thinking and reflection
Education for sustainability encourages individuals and groups to reflect upon personal experiences and world views, and challenges accepted ways of interpreting and engaging with the world.
